Land Use Permit for Wood Bison Acclimation Site near Minto Flats State Game Refuge - LAS 34951

Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Northern Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: Alaska Department of Fish & Game

PROJECT NAME: LAS 34951

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: The proposed land use permit is located on the south bank of the Tanana River adjacent to Minto Flats State Game Refuge, approximately 60 miles west of Fairbanks.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION: 
Fairbanks Meridian, Township 2 South, Range 11 West, Sections 6 & 7
Fairbanks Meridian, Township 2 South, Range 12 West, Sections 1 & 12

REQUESTED ACTIVITY: Alaska Department of Fish & Game has applied for a land use permit on state land to establish an acclimation site for wood bison that will ultimately be released into Minto Flats State Game Refuge as part of the Wood Bison Restoration Project. The project site will consist of three 100-acre fenced enclosers, an access trail, man camp, weatherport, outhouse, conex containers, fuel depot, motorized equipment, and a winter only airstrip. The project is expected to start in the spring of 2024.

DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS: April 18, 2024

The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made on this activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must be received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at 3700 Airport Way, Fairbanks, AK  99709 on or before 5:00 p.m. on the date noted above. After review and adjudication, we may issue an authorization with stipulations for the activity. The activity may be modified during the review and adjudication process.
