South University Avenue Bicycle/Pedestrian Facility (CMAQ)

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is soliciting comments on the proposed South University Avenue Bicycle/Pedestrian Facility (CMAQ) project. DOT&PF plans to construct a bicycle/pedestrian facility along South University Avenue from the Parks Highway to Armistead Way to accommodate non-motorized access for East Ramp Airport facilities. Other work includes pavement resurfacing, drainage improvements, and signs and guardrail replacement. Minor encroachment in Chena River floodplain is anticipated.

We are currently working on conceptual designs, engineering, and environmental studies. Construction is currently planned for summer 2024.

DOT&PF requests information and comments on resources in the project area that may be affected including historic properties, archaeological sites, wetlands, and floodplain encroachment.

The project is being developed in accordance with the following Executive Orders (EO):

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by the Alaska DOT&PF pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated November 3, 2017 and executed by the FHWA and DOT&PF.
