Middle Nenana River Fish & Game Advisory Committee Meeting and Elections February 9th at 6pm

The Middle Nenana River Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet and hold elections on Wednesday, February 9th, 2022 at 6:00 pm at the Tri-Valley Community Center in Healy. This meeting is open to the public.

Please follow the guidance from the State of Alaska's Health Advisory 1: Recommendations for Keeping Alaskans Safe:
• Wear a cloth face covering/mask when in public settings.  
• Practice social distancing.
• Monitor your health and stay at home when sick.
• Practice good hygiene and frequently wash your hands.

Agenda items will include the following:

  • Wildlife updates
  • Elections for Healy (3), Ferry (1), McKinley (1), and Clear (3) designated seats
  • Officer elections
  • Continue Discussion on Board of Game Statewide Proposals
  • Board of Fisheries Call for Proposals 2022-2023 
  • Other fisheries and wildlife business as needed

Elections will be held for 8 designated seats with terms that have expired or will be expired before the 2022-2023 meeting cycle from the following communities:
 Healy (3)
•  Clear (3)
•  Ferry (1)
•  McKinley (1)

Nominations will be called for by the chair, and each nominee will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and their positions prior to the election. Incumbent members that are re-elected will serve terms that expire three years from their previously held position (e.g., if a re-elected member's term had expired in 2020, their new term would expire in 2023). Newly elected members will serve 3 year terms that will expire on June 30th, 2025. 

To be eligible to make nominations or vote in an election of a Fish & Game Advisory Committee, you must be a voting-age resident of the area served by the committee as defined in 5 AAC 96.910(10) and attending the election meeting. The areas served by the Middle Nenana River Fish and Game Advisory Committee as defined in 5 AAC 97.005 are Game Management Units 12, 20, 21, and the Tanana River. Advisory committees are local groups that meet to discuss fishing and wildlife issues and to provide recommendations to Alaska Board of Fisheries and Alaska Board of Game. All meetings are open to the public. Advisory Committees are intended to provide a local forum on fish and wildlife issues. Their purpose includes: 1) developing regulatory proposals, 2) evaluating regulatory proposals and making recommendations to the appropriate board, 3) providing a local forum for fish and wildlife conservation and use, including matters relating to habitat, 4) advising the appropriate regional council on resources, and 5) consulting with individuals, organizations, and agencies.
