The Northern Seward Peninsula Fish & Game Advisory Committee (AC) teleconference meeting that was scheduled for today Wednesday, January 8, 2020 beginning at 1:00 p.m. has been postponed due to no quorum.
Agenda items will include the following:
Discussion on the Joint Board’s approval to change the Northern Peninsula membership status, current terms of members, and on the election process.

Review Wildlife Management topics pertinent to Game Management Unit 23

Establish a registration permit hunt for muskox in Units 21D, 22A, and 24D.

Open a year-round season for caribou bull harvest in Unit 23

Reduce the bag limit for caribou in Unit 23

Extend the season for taking cow caribou in Unit 23

Restrict the use of snow-machines for taking caribou in Unit 23
-
Remove the restriction on caribou calf harvest in Unit 23
-
Prohibit nonresident hunting of moose or caribou under intensive management in the Western Arctic until harvest or population objectives are met; staff to provide intensive management program scenarios which does not currently exist in Unit 23

Establish intensive management for bear across the Western Arctic; no intensive management exists for bear in Unit 23

Reauthorize the current resident tag fee exemptions for brown bear in Unit 23

Clarify that big game tags be paid for and issued prior to hunters taking big game that require tags and may discuss Proposals 167 & 168 relating to guide activities and issuing permits to agencies collaring animals.

The AC may also consider any other business related to hunting, fishing, or trapping regulations that come before them.
Advisory committees are local groups that meet to discuss fish and wildlife issues and to provide recommendations to the Alaska Board of Game and the Alaska Board of Fisheries on regulations that may affect them. All meetings are open to the public. As the local forum, committees develop and/or evaluate regulatory proposals and provide recommendations to the appropriate board, discuss conservation and use, including matters related to habitat, advising the regional councils on resources and consulting with individuals, organizations, and agencies.
