Kotzebue Sound Fish and Game Advisory Committee Meeting

The Kotzebue Sound AC will hold a public meeting to elect AC members and officers as well as review wildlife and fisheries proposals. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Northwest Arctic Borough Assembly chambers.
The Kotzebue Sound AC is looking for members to sit on the State fish and game advisory committee. The committees are established as a local forum to provide recommendations on the management of fish and wildlife resources. The Kotzebue Sound AC is a 9-member committee organized with staggered terms. Nominations will be accepted from the floor from all those present at the meeting. The three highest vote-getters will be or 3-year terms and the next three vote getters will be for 2-year terms, etc. An election of officers (Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary) will follow the election of AC members.
The AC will have the opportunity to review hunting and fishing proposals and provide comments on: 1) Reauthorize resident brown bear tag fee exemptions in Unit 23; 2) Require bi-weekly reporting of all sport, personal use, and subsistence caught king salmon catch; 3) Prohibit the intentional waste or destruction of subsistence caught fish and sheefish; 4) Repeal and readopt the policy for the statewide salmon escapement goals; 5) Amend the policy for the management of sustainable salmon fisheries; and 6) Modify criteria for the allocation of fishery resources among personal use, sport, and commercial fisheries.
The uniform rules of operation for ACs will include proposals to be reviewed by ACs and updated by the Joint Board who will meet in March 21-25, 2019.
