Southern Norton Sound Fish and Game Advisory Committee Meeting

The Southern Norton Sound Fish and Game Advisory Committee will be holding a public meeting in Unalakleet in the Bingo Hall on Thursday, December 8th, 2016 at 12:00 PM. To participate in the meeting telephonically please call 1-800-504-8071 code 442-1717 the day of the meeting.

Agenda items will include the following items;

Memorandum of Understanding

  1. Fishery Proposals
    1. Proposal 244: Align sport crab fishery regulations and repeal methods and means and general provisions for shellfish for the North Slope, Kuskokwim-Goodnews and Yukon areas
    2. Proposal 245: Extend the closure line north for the Norton Sound Section commercial king crab fishery from 64  15' N. latitude
  2. Hunting Proposals
    1. Proposal 4: Institute no-fly zones for caribou hunting in Units 21D, 22, 23, 24, & 26A
    2. Proposal 6: Clarify the resident general and subsistence hunting seasons and the nonresident general hunting seasons for caribou in Interior/Northeast Arctic and Arctic/Western Regions
    3. Proposal 8: Prohibit nonresident hunting of any prey species under intensive management in the Arctic/Western Region until harvest and population objectives are met.
    4. Proposal 17: Change the definition of edible meat for game birds
    5. Proposal 18: Brown bear tag fee exemption Proposal 26: Lengthen the hunting season for moose in Unit 22A
    6. Proposal 19: Remove the bag limit restriction for resident relatives accompanying nonresident second kindred.
    7. Proposal 26: Lengthen the hunting season for moose in Unit 22A
    8. Proposal 27: Lengthen the nonresident hunting season for moose in Unit 22A.
    9. Proposal 28: Eliminate the nonresident moose hunt in Units 22E and 22D remainder
    10. Proposal 29: Open a hunting season for caribou in Unit 22A by emergency order
    11. Proposal 30: Lengthen the hunting season for brown bear in Unit 22C as follows
    12. Proposal 31: Increase the bag limit for brown bear in Unit 22B
    13. Proposal 32: Lengthen the hunting season for brown bear in Unit 22A
  3. Elect Arctic/Western Board of Game Meeting Attendee
  4. Elect Statewide Crab Meeting Attendee

Advisory committees are local groups that meet to discuss fishing and wildlife issues and to provide recommendations to Alaska Board of Fisheries and Alaska Board of Game. All meetings are open to the public. Advisory Committees are intended to provide a local forum on fish and wildlife issues. Their purpose includes: 1) developing regulatory proposals, 2) evaluating regulatory proposals and making recommendations to the appropriate board, 3) providing a local forum for fish and wildlife conservation and use, including matters relating to habitat, 4) advising the appropriate regional council on resources, and 5) consulting with individuals, organizations, and agencies.
