On August 2, 2016, DEC published a Public Notice for the tentative decision to reissue the Pesticide General Permit (PGP) for Discharges from the Application of Pesticides, permit number AKG870000. The PGP covers point source discharges of pollutants associated with the application of biological pesticides or chemical pesticides that leave a residue from the following use patterns: 1) mosquito and other flying insect pest control; 2) aquatic weed and algae control; 3) aquatic nuisance animal control; and 4) forest canopy pest control. The PGP would apply statewide except for lands within the Metlakatla Indian Reserve and the Denali National Park Preserve.
The public notice comment period was to expire on September 2, 2016. By request, the public notice has been extended an additional 30 days and shall now expire on October 3, 2016. Written comments or requests for a public hearing on the APDES draft general permit must be submitted within 30 days of the issuance of this public notice. Please direct written comments to the attention of Jim Rypkema at the address or email identified above. All comments should include the name, address, and telephone number of the commenter and a concise statement of comment on the permit condition(s) and the relevant facts upon which the comment is based. Comments of either support or concern which are directed at specific, cited permit requirements are appreciated. Mailed comments must be postmarked on or before the expiration date of the public notice.
