Noatak and Kivalina Fish and Game Advisory Committee Meeting

The Noatak and Kivalina Fish and Game Advisory Committee will be holding a public meeting in Noatak in the Noatak School on, Thursday October 30, 2015 from 12-4 pm. You can participate in the meeting telephonically by call 1-800-504-8071 code 442-1717.

Agenda items will include the following items;

•Open discussion-locally important issues
•Make rod and reel legal subsistence gear
•Antlerless Moose Reauthorization
•Brown Bear Tag Fee Exemption
•Potential requirement for traps to be checked every 24 hours.
•Hunting season for snowy owls and cormorants.
•Harvest Reporting of Caribou
•Harvest Reporting for Sheep
•Allow the sale of brown bear hides and skull
•Establishing minimum caliber for caribou and moose
•Require traps to be checked every 24 hours
•Move trapping away from cities of 1,000 or more.
•Restrict use of lights for hunting beaver in winter
•Require hunters to submit a subsistence hunt report
•Modify the qualification s for Tier II hunts

Advisory committees are local groups that meet to discuss fishing and wildlife issues and to provide recommendations to Alaska Board of Fisheries and Alaska Board of Game. All meetings are open to the public. Advisory Committees are intended to provide a local forum on fish and wildlife issues. Their purpose includes: 1) developing regulatory proposals, 2) evaluating regulatory proposals and making recommendations to the appropriate board, 3) providing a local forum for fish and wildlife conservation and use, including matters relating to habitat, 4) advising the appropriate regional council on resources, and 5) consulting with individuals, organizations, and agencies.
