Notice of Preliminary Decision for an Asbestos Monofill Permit for the City of Kake

The State of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) has made a preliminary decision to obtain an asbestos monofill permit for the City of Kake in order for the City to demolish the School and dispose of the asbestos and other building debris on island.

Activity: The City of Kake has been awarded Brownfield services by the ADEC to aid in the demolition and disposal of the collapsed former elementary school located in downtown Kake. The ADEC proposes to obtain an asbestos monofill permit for the City of Kake in order for the City to demolish the School and dispose of the asbestos and eventually build a community center. The ADEC is accepting public comments on the ABCA as part of their community relations plan. There will be a public meeting on July 8th 2015 at 3 pm at the City of Kake City Hall where the public can get information and discuss the monofill plan with the City Manager and a representative from the ADEC.

Available Information: Copies of the Analysis of Brownfield Cleanup Alternatives and the report detailing the environmental investigations done at the site to date are available for public review at the following locations:

To provide comments on the ABCA, write to the ADEC at P.O. Box 111800 Juneau, AK 99811-1800. Please send comments to the attention of Danielle Duncan. Comments on the Analysis of Brownfield Cleanup Alternatives will beaccepted from July 1 2015 to July 31 2015. Comments may also be faxed to ADEC at (907) 465-5218 or emailed to danielle.duncan@alaska.gov. It is the responsibility of the commenter to verify facsimile and email submissions are received by the deadline.
