Notice of proposal to issue a Solid Waste Disposal Permit for a Class III Municipal Solid Waste Landfill to City of New Stuyahok

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) has completed a permit application review for the City of New Stuyahok and has determined the application meets the requirements to issue a Solid Waste Disposal Permit for a Class III Municipal Solid Waste Landfill.  ADEC proposes to issue a permit to the existing facility described herein:

 

APPLICANT INFORMATION:

Landowner: City of New Stuyahok

Landfill Operator: City of New Stuyahok

 

LOCATION:  The New Stuyahok Landfill is accessible by road located north of the community and east of the New Stuyahok airport within Section 29, Township 8 South, Range 47 West, Seward Meridian. New Stuyahok lies on the north bank of the Nushagak River, approximately 96 miles upriver from Nushagak Bay, in the Bristol Bay Recording District in southwest Alaska.

 

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The landfill serves the 510 residents of New Stuyahok.  It is estimated that the community produces 465 tons of solid waste per year. The 3 acre site includes two burn units for waste volume reduction, a solid waste disposal cell, and a salvage area.

OPPORTUNITY FOR PUBLIC PARTICIPATION:

ADEC is seeking comment regarding the proposed project only.  Notice is given that any person interested may present written comments relevant to the proposed Permit to ADEC.  Written comments will be included in the record if received before 5:00 p.m. on September 22nd, 2014.  Submit written comments regarding the project to Stephen Price, ADEC Division of Environmental Health, Solid Waste Program, 555 Cordova St., Anchorage, Alaska 99501, Fax: (907) 269-7600, email stephen.price@alaska.gov.
