Public Easement ADL 420030 for a Recreational Trail in the Ester Dome Area

The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land, and Water, Northern Region Office has received a public easement application from Interior Trail Preservation Coalition for the construction of a non-motorized public access recreational trail in the Easter Dome area.  

LOCATION

The proposed easement is located approximately 500 feet north of Ester Dome Road near the summit of Ester Dome.  The proposed trail will follow the section line north between section 25 and 30 for a short distance and then proceed northwest and intersect with the existing Nugget Creek Trail (RS 1602).  The proposed public easement is on State land within:  Fairbanks Meridian, Township 1 North, Range 3 West, Section 25. 

PROPOSED PROJECT

Interior Trails Preservation Coalition proposes to construct a trail for public non-motorized recreational use.  The purpose of the trail is to reroute a portion of the Equinox Marathon race route.  The proposed easement will be approximately 900 feet long by 20 feet wide, encompassing 0.41 acres.  The applicant proposes to construct the trail using sustainable trail standards, using a Swenco trail dozer, mini excavator, and hand tools.  In addition, the applicant proposes to construct steps where warranted in areas with grades greater than 20%.  The steps will be 2 feet long by 4 feet wide and constructed with railroad ties and rebar.  Trail construction will begin in the summer of 2014.  Access to the proposed trail is through Ester Dome Road. 

DEADLINE FOR WRITTEN COMMENTS

Comments must be submitted to the Division of Mining, Land, and Water, Northern Region Office in written form no later than 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2014 in order to ensure consideration.
